Why do people backstab?

Link: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_do_people_backstab

People backstab because they are scared human beings. You might think they know about life therefore you are not expecting them to stick a knife in your back. But the truth is we are all messed up humans in the head and all we care about is ourselves. So you can't to go through your whole life expecting none of your friends to stab you in the back every now and then.

However, you should learn to forgive. Because resentment of these backstabers can ultimately lead to your death. For resentment and unforgiveness against people brings nothing but horrifying results to your life. Just let it go, Don't talk to them anymore if you have to. But dont hold it against them. But if you can then forgive them.

6 Keys to Achieving Mental Strength

Live Like a SEAL

Master Chief Will Guild, a 27-year Navy SEAL veteran, mentors incoming SEAL candidates. The six key values he imparts to future special operators apply to any walk of life

1. Put teammates first

"This is an exoteric responsibility -- that is, 'imparting to someone else' -- and it's missing from our culture. When you are acting exoterically, you are acting ethically. How do I treat others? How do I fit into the team? What is my responsibility? Ask yourself these questions, no matter your profession."

________________________________________

RELATED CONTENT: Bravery (and How to Master It)

________________________________________

2. Second-guess yourself

"We all have monkey brains. We think terrible things sometimes. Quitting, abandoning something important to us. But don't let that disturb you too much, because it happens to everyone. Really, who you are is your second or even third thought."

3. Allow yourself to fear

"Some people become afraid, and they find it overwhelming. When that happens, reach out to family, friends, or colleagues. Fear is a shared experience -- you'll get a lot of energy from the people around you. Being okay with being afraid is the first step to overcoming it."

4. Control your emotions physically

"Ask a family member or friend to study your posture when you're happy or content. Then practice it, over and over. Your psyche will follow your body. You can literally control your emotions this way."

5. Break big goals into small targets

"How do you eat an elephant? One mouthful at a time. Don't wake up Monday morning and say, 'Four days and 16 hours till Friday.' Instead, wake up and say, 'Two hours till breakfast.' And then, 'Three hours till lunch.' Try to stay in the present."

6. Have faith in yourself

"This is the most crucial part of mental toughness. It's something I tell all the SEALs. Have faith that you'll figure it out. You are a lot stronger physically and mentally than you think you are."

____________________________________________________________________

Overcome Fear and Build Mental Strength

Conquer Your Fears

SEALs condition themselves mentally to overcome both their rational and irrational fears. Lieutenant Commander Eric Potterat, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist with Naval Special Warfare Command, calls it "upgrading your software." Here's how to strengthen your cerebral mettle and beat these four common fears.

Fear 1: Public Speaking

Before you step on stage, suck in several gut-filling breaths, counting 4 seconds with each inhale and exhale. You'll decrease your blood pressure, slow your heart rate, and -- most important -- distract yourself from thoughts of failure. "When you focus away from your fear," says Potterat, "you begin to control it."

Fear 2: Heights

Train with a team. SEALs condition themselves as a unit, using one another as motivation to reach peak performance. Likewise, if you attempt to scale an indoor climbing wall with a group of buddies, their presence can reinforce your resolve.

Fear 3: Flying

Coach yourself through a faux flight, thinking about as many details (sights, sounds, smells) as possible. Potterat preps SEALs with mental walk-throughs of different operations. "Your mind thinks, Hey, I've done this before, transforming an unfamiliar situation into a controlled environment," he says.

Fear 4: Commitment

Figure out what's stopping you, reality or fear. "Fear is usually a by-product of irrational belief," says Potterat. In other words, there's no reason to believe she'll be a total bitch once she has a ring on her finger -- unless she already is one.

Fight the Good Fight

5 Fights You Can't (and Shouldn't) Avoid
You a dude? Be a dude.

YOUR SURRENDER Growing up, getting married, and starting a family and a career ends in tragedy for men. We die. At least, the stuff that makes us interesting to ourselves does. Your many bosses (read: parents, wives, in-laws, the senior VP) are trying to mold you into a Gumby who bends to their will. They deserve your best effort, but not your capitulation. You a dude? Be a dude. Screw 'em (after your chores are done).

YOUR PROMOTION That sighing thing you do around your boss on payday is, well, pussy. Your boss hired a bulldog, and a bulldog will force his hand. Oh, and if your new package doesn't include equity, invest in yourself: Start your own company.

YOUR PARENTAL AUTHORITY Are you the "cool" dad? Dumb ass. You've set yourself up for this problem, and, yeah, it will hurt you more than it hurts the kid when you go ahead and fix what's wrong. You must now put your foot down, and, yeah, in the short term, junior or juniette will see only the jackboot that houses it. You're being a good parent by disciplining them. Let 'em hate you for a while.

YOUR FINANCIAL SANITY AS A COUPLE You must state your case to her about cash. Just realize some financial facts about women: First, a haircut (with highlights) runs three figures. Second, it happens every 6 weeks. And third, if you accept this and budget for it, it will no longer burn an acid hole in your stomach so big that half-chewed hunks of pot roast drop to your scrotum.

Bold
YOUR CAUSE Most unavoidable fights, like the ones you're reading about here, are selfish fights. But there comes a time in a guy's life when he steps up for something he believes in, though it was never his fight alone. And that's the point. A man makes it his fight.

AMARAN: JAGAN BUBBLE!.
Cracking your knuckles does not actually hurt your bones or cause arthritis. The sound you hear is just gas bubbles bursting.

Cracking your knuckles (or any of your joints) can have therapeutic benefits. When you crack one of your joints you are pulling the bones that are connected at the joint apart from each other. This process stimulates your tendons, relaxes your muscles, and loosens your joints. Chiropractors do this for spinal joints when your back is sore and stiff, but you can do this on your own for your knuckles, toes, knees, neck, etc.

Unfortunately, there can be too much of a good thing. Cracking your knuckles will never lead to arthritis (despite what your mom keeps telling you), but scientists have discovered that it can cause tissue damage in the affected joints. Knuckle-cracking pulls your finger bones apart which stretches your ligaments. Too much stretching of your ligaments will cause damage to your fingers akin to the arm injuries sustained by a baseball pitcher who throws too many pitches. In addition to making your hand really sore, this ligament damage can also result in reduced grip strength.

How does this work? Your joints, the places in your body where you can bend, are where your bones intersect and are held together by ligaments. These joints are surrounded by a liquid called synovial fluid. When you stretch your ligaments by pulling the bones apart to crack your knuckles a gas in the synovial fluid escapes and turns into a bubble. This process is called cavitation. Cavitation ends when the bubble eventually bursts, producing that popping sound we know and love. After that, your joints won't be able to crack for another 25-30 minutes while the gas gets reabsorbed into the synovial fluid.

Correct Use of Exercise Machines

MensHealth link: http://www.menshealth.com/men/weight-loss/work-it-off/correct-use-of-exercise-machines/article/752a99edbbbd201099edbbbd2010cfe793cd

Burn Fat Faster
Next time you race off to the gym, use these secrets for maximum effect

We asked the experts what they see people doing wrong on the leading exercise machines and found out how we can squeeze more out of our time on them. Follow their fat-burning exercise suggestions and you'll burn more of it than the sweat-spraying cardio crazies with the blurry legs and burning lungs . . . and still have time for a smoothie afterward. (Editor's Note: Before you buy the smoothie, you should checkout the cuddly fat at My Pet Fat.)

Rowing Machine

YOUR FORM

The mistake: Your hands bump your knees, and "everything gets jumbled," says Mike Irwin, University of Pennsylvania lightweight varsity crew coach.

The fix: Think of the stroke as a dance, counting 1-2-3 and 3-2-1. On 1, push with your legs; on 2, "swing up" your body by leaning back; on 3, draw your arms to the bottom of your rib cage, spinning the flywheel. Then reverse it: 3, extend your arms; 2, swing your body forward from the hips; 1, bring your legs up after the handle passes your knees. "It should be a fluid motion when you tie it all together,"says Irwin.

YOUR WORKOUT

The mistake: A long, steady slog. "You probably won't be able to maintain your power and form for the entire workout," Irwin says.

The fix: With medium resistance, do four to six 10-minute sets of rowing with 2 to 3 minutes of rest in between. "Your heart rate won't come all the way down, but you'll be able to regroup and start fresh," says Irwin.

Treadmill

YOUR FORM

The mistake: Too much up and down and not enough levelheadedness, says Zack Barksdale, an exercise physiologist at the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas. You'll tire out your joints--and yourself--too soon.

The fix: Improve flexibility to smooth out your stride. Try leg swings--hold the handlebar, stand on one leg, and swing the other back and forth, keeping your upper body still. "It will loosen and warm you up, making your legs more pliable," says Barksdale.

YOUR WORKOUT

The mistake: Too many long, steady, flat runs.

The fix: Run shorter and harder, mixing speeds and inclines. You'll fatigue your muscles and your energy source more quickly, making this a more efficient fat burning exercise that will keep working throughout the day. Start with a 2 percent incline, and over several sessions work up to 10 percent. (Just walk at this point.) The more intense the workout, the shorter it can be.

Studies have shown that just 1/2

teaspoon of cinnamon per day can lower LDL cholesterol.

Several studies suggest that cinnamon may have a regulatory effect on blood sugar, making it especially beneficial for people with Type 2 diabetes.

In some studies, cinnamon has shown an amazing ability to stop medication-resistant yeast infections.

In a study published by researchers at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Maryland, cinnamon reduced the proliferation of leukemia and lymphoma cancer cells.

It has an anti-clotting effect on the blood.

In a study at Copenhagen University, patients given half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder combined with one tablespoon of honey every morning before breakfast had significant relief in arthritis pain after one week and could walk without pain within one month.

When added to food, it inhibits bacterial growth and food spoilage, making it a natural food preservative.

One study found that smelling cinnamon boosts cognitive function and memory.

Researchers at Kansas State University found that cinnamon fights the E. coli bacteria in unpasteurized juices.

10. It is a great source of manganese, fiber, iron, and calcium.

Shisha smoking looks pretty & tastes fruity, but experts warn:It is worse than cigarettes

THINK smoking shisha is harmless or safer than smoking a cigarette? It's a pipe dream, warn doctors.

In reality, a single session of smoking the popular shisha water pipes causes the smoker to take in more nicotine than puffing one pack of cigarettes, said the World Health Organisation (WHO) in March.

Do not be fooled by shisha's fruity flavours or colourful water pipes.

Mr Hussein Gezairy, WHO regional director, said: 'There has been a widespread FALSE belief for decades now that shishas are less harmful and addictive than cigarettes.'

Many in Middle Eastern countries smoke shisha in the belief that forcing the smoke through the pipes' water container filters out some of the toxins like nicotine.

IT ADDS CARCINOGENS

But shisha smoke not only retains all the cancer-causing carcinogens of cigarette smoke, it also adds carbon monoxide and a separate set of carcinogens from the use of burning coals to keep the nicotine flowing.

In Singapore, taking in shisha's fruit-flavoured smoke - there's everything from apple to peach - is becoming popular among the young at hip enclaves like Arab Street and at some pubs in the city.

The Health Promotion Board is concerned that the habit is growing in popularity because it is seen as a trendy and less harmful alternative to cigarette smoking.

Dr Husaini Hafiz, a general practitioner, told The New Paper: 'When one pays for a session of shisha smoking, one does not see the usual health warning labels of ulcerating tongues or bleeding brains present (on) a pack ofcigarettes.

'Shisha also does not have the usual harsh and sometimes unpleasant smell of cigarette smoke. But all evidence indicates that it is as harmful, if not more harmful than cigarette smoke.'

Dr Husaini said that research has shown that 1gof shisha smoke yields:

100 times more tar

11 times more carbon monoxide

four times more nicotine than 1g of cigarette smoke.

He said: 'Carbon monoxide was used by the Nazis as a readily available gas to kill prisoners. It can also cause death if you sit in a car with the engine idling for a long time.

'Chronic nicotine exposure can cause irregular heartbeats.

'And significant amounts of tar can cause cancer.'

The other problem with shisha smoking is that smokers tend to inhale more smoke than with cigarettes.

Said Dr Husaini: 'Because the duration of a single puff of shisha smoke is double that of a cigarette and the suction pressure for inhalation of shisha smoke is four times that of a cigarette, the shisha smoke reaches deeper into lung tissue.

'Shisha smoking may introduce dangerous chemicals into the body more efficiently.'

Like cigarette smoking, shisha smoking can also increase one's risk of lung, mouth and bladder cancer, as well as cardiovascular disease, said DrHusaini.

He said: 'Blood pressure and heart rate increase upon shisha smoking.

'Episodes of sudden and short periods of oxygen deprivation can result in heart attack or brain stroke.

'Chronic exposure to nicotine also has a direct effect on the heart, causing atrial flutter.'

BEAT TOO FAST

Atrial flutter occurs when the electrical impulses that coordinate the heartbeat do not function properly, causing the heart to beat toofast.

Shisha smoking can also cause mouth and gum diseases.

'Sharing the waterpipe mouthpieces may also transmit communicable diseases including hepatitis and cold sores,' said DrHusaini.

Second-hand shisha smoke may also cause infertility in females, sterility in males, and birth defects in babies.

The Youth Advolution for Health has started a project to educate youths on shisha smoking.

Burn Fat Faster

Kick your metabolism into overdrive by performing this body-weight routine 12 hours before or after your weight workout. Move from one exercise to the next without resting between exercises, and repeat the circuit up to four times.

Prisoner squat (20 reps)

Pushup (15 reps)

Bulgarian split squat (15 reps per side)

Inverted row (as many reps as you can complete with perfect form)

Prisoner forward lunge (10 reps per side)

Elevated pushup (8 reps per side)

Go Green

Catechins, the powerful antioxidants found in green tea, are known to increase metabolism. In a 12-week double-blind study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, participants who consumed 690 milligrams of catechins from green tea daily had significantly lower body-mass indexes and smaller waist measurements than those in the control group. Skip the Lipton and steep 1 teaspoon of loose green-tea leaves (we like Dragon Pearl from Rishi; rishi-tea.com) in hot water for 4 minutes.

The Nike Free Run+: Nike Elites Weigh In

April 29, 2010

Are you curious what the Elites have to say about the new Nike Free Run+? We were too. Here's what Asafa Powell, Kara Goucher, Paula Radcliffe and Ariane Friedrich shared with us.

Sprinter Asafa Powell called the Nike Free Run+ "light as a feather." He finds the shoe great for his training for several reasons. "I like the flexibility of the sole because it really allows me to push off the ground properly, but it's also very comfortable and still as supportive as I need it to be."

Distance standout Kara Goucher said that she wears the Nike Free Run+ during her cool down runs because it makes her feet stronger. She noted, "The stronger my feet are, the more stable my entire body becomes and the less likely I am to become injured."

Paula Radcliffe considers the Nike Free Run+ to be "an integral part" of her strengthening program. She commented: "They are more flexible than a regular training shoe so they allow my foot to behave close to its natural movement." Radcliffe added: "I also find they really allow my feet to recover well after long workouts and runs."

But don't think that the Nike Free Run+ shoes are just for runners. High jumper Ariane Friedrich is a fan. "I train with the Nike Free Run+ to strengthen my feet and lower leg muscles; this gets them ready for competitions at the highest level."

Free Like Feet Want to Be

April 29, 2010

Barefoot running. Everyone's talking about how great it is, but is it truly beneficial? We think so. And here's why.

Barefoot running frees up your foot's range of motion, allowing you to strengthen muscles you don't normally use in a typical running shoe. But we understand that you aren't crazy about squishing your toes in mud or dodging broken glass with bare feet.

Enter the Nike Free Run+. Its flexible design closely mimics the natural movement of your foot. And unlike a lot of regular running shoes, its flexibility provides a world of comfort on the run or while walking around.

Other features:

-More flex grooves promote an even more natural, barefoot-like stride

-Increased support under the arch for improved stability

-More cushioning for an exceptional ride

-A completely new midsole design for a better fit

-A precisely engineered upper for targeted support

-Asymmetrical lacing for added comfort

-Nike+ ready
