Tip: Practice Patience
April 20, 2010In this series of tips, Coach Jay explains why runners must be careful not to put too much importance on numbers when analyzing their training and racing.
A few years ago I was with a friend of a friend who happened to be an Olympic Triathlete. This guy told a long — and unfortunately, somewhat boring — story about the fact that the good things in life take time. Yes, they do. Becoming a runner takes time; once you're a runner, it takes time to become a fit runner; once you're a fit runner it takes time (a lifetime?) to become a faster runner. But the point is that it takes time.
As a concept often talked about on this site, the problem is that metabolic changes occur faster than the structural changes for a runner; your heart and lungs get fitter, faster while your muscles, bones and tendons take longer to adapt. You've heard this before, but if you're going to reach your potential as a runner and if you're going to be able to enjoy as many runs as you want in a given year, you need to fully accept this concept. And that may very well mean not running every day. It could mean a pool workout or a complete day of rest. Or maybe it's that for your next half marathon training cycle you don't try to run any more miles and you don't try to run any workouts faster than your last training build up, but rather get the training in and see if you can do it feeling fresh and motivated every single day.
Obviously I don't know how the principle of things taking time impacts your individual training issues, but there is no doubt that things take time. If you're mindful of that concept you'll no doubt train smarter and race faster.

Tip: Get Used to Running Alone
April 06, 2010
Training alone is difficult, yet there are times when every runner must do just that, both literally and metaphorically.
This past weekend an athlete I know was in town. He had to do his last rigorous race-pace workout before a marathon, and he had to do it alone. Today one of the athletes I work with will have to do a challenging workout alone as his training partners have a longer workout planned. My point is, running hard in practice by yourself is one of the harsh realities that professional runners face; running alone for the serious weekend warrior is just as challenging, yet there are times when one simply has to get the workout done.
The good news is that track workouts are often easier to do alone than long runs. Threshold runs and Fartlek runs are a bit more individual. Some athletes have no problem doing Fartlek and/or threshold workouts alone while others, including myself, hate to do that type of work alone. So do your best to plan the days you'll have to workout alone. If you're going to be out of town on business or your schedule will be interrupted, make sure you plan a workout that isn't too daunting to do by yourself. Sometimes running alone is also a good way to work out the very things that are making it difficult for us to run alone to begin with. Running is just as much a mental sport as it is a physical one, so it's good to practice doing it alone because it builds up mental toughness.
As my college track coach liked to remind us, "Ultimately and essentially we're all alone." That is certainly true in a race, and for that reason all of us will have to feel comfortable doing some of our workouts alone. The solitude of running is, at its best, what makes the sport so inspiring and wonderful. But in its not-so-great moments, it is also the very thing that makes it so difficult. Love isn't always easy, though, so keep running through the tough times and things will get better.

Stretching Before and After a Run
March 25, 2010
There are three keys regarding stretching as a distance runner.
First issue is to get out of the "no pain, no gain" mentality when stretching. While our skeletal muscles contain golgi tendon organs that protect the body from overstretching, we still have the capacity to injure ourselves by stretching too hard. When you feel pain, you're overstretching. And while you will gain flexibility within 2-4 weeks if you follow a stretching program, nothing changes this simple fact: pain and stretching do not go together.
The second thing to remember is that prior to a run the “stretching" should focus on joint mobility and getting the body ready to run. The Lunge Warm-Up and Myrtl routine featured in our video series are two great ways to prepare for a run, yet neither video will show any toe touches. Static stretching, such as toe touches, should not be the focus of your pre-run routine, though many runners think otherwise.
But static stretching fits well after your run and that's the third thing a runner needs to be honest about - if a runner finishes a run, showers, and then is sitting in a car or an office chair 15 minutes later that runner is setting himself up for injuries. Static stretching or yoga is exactly what a runner needs after a run — just 5 minutes of stretching will allow you to feel better on your subsequent runs — allowing you to slowly increase your mileage over weeks and months. The Back routine and Myrtl routine from the video series can also be used after your run, but simple static stretching that you would have done in middle school PE class is appropriate at this point.
Bottom line is five minutes and five minutes; make sure you add five minutes for joint mobility before your run and five minutes for static stretching, yoga, or more mobility work after your run and you'll have fewer running injuries.

Nike Free 5.0: Bare Your Feet
Link: http://inside.nike.com/blogs/nikerunning_news-en_US/2009/05/12/nike-free-50-bare-your-feetGet ready to expose your feet to the brilliance of barefoot-like running with the new Nike Free 5.0!
Available in both a men's and women's version, the Free 5.0 is designed for the runner who wants the strengthening and natural gait management benefits associated with barefoot training, along with the cushioning, traction and underfoot protection that most runners also need.
So, what makes the new Free 5.0 a truly unique shoe?
Deep, Nike Free Sipes
Molded along the length and width of the midsole, the sipes allow for barefoot-like flexibility and stability.
A Phylite Midsole
Features a Waffle outsole construction for lightweight, resilient cushioning along with enhanced traction and durability.
A 5.0-Specific Upper
Engineered to provide just enough support while still allowing the foot to move in a natural, dynamic and barefoot-like manner. The soft, ultra-smooth microfiber overlays—created using a unique technique to minimize stitching—also maximizes comfort. And a redesigned tongue construction reduces pressure over the top ridge of the foot, while also providing extra support by wrapping around the medial arch.
Finally, both the men's and women's Free 5.0's are designed with gender-specific sipes that are wider across the forefoot. These allow for greater engagement of the toes on footstrike and increased muscle activation for a more barefoot-like experience.

he Sufyani (Arabic: السفياني), is an evil, apocryphal character of Islamic eschatology. The Sufyani will emerge before the Mahdi from the depths of Damascus.
The term "Sufyani" is a term referring to his descent from the progeny of Abu Sufyan. He will be one of many Muslim tyrants that the Mahdi will have to face in the Middle East. The Sufyani is not the Dajjal. The Ahadith regarding the Sufyani specify that he is a tyrant who will spread corruption and mischief on the earth before the Mahdi. He will be such a tyrant that he will kill the children and rip out the bellies of women. The Sufyani will murder those from the household of the Prophet and will rule over Syria. When he hears about the Mahdi, he will send an army to seize and kill him. However the earth will swallow this army before it even reaches the Mahdi.
Abu Hurayrah has narrated that the Prophet said:
A man will emerge from the depths of Damascus. He will be called Sufyani. Most of those who follow him will be from the tribe of Kalb. He will kill by ripping the stomachs of women and even kill the children. A man from my family will appear in the Haram, the news of his advent will reach the Sufyani and he will send to him one of his armies. He (referring to the Mahdi) will defeat them. They will then travel with whomever remains until they come to a desert and they will be swallowed. None will be saved except the one who had informed the others about them. (Mustadrak Al-Hakim)
The Sufyani will be followed, for the most part, by the tribe of Kalb, and will have fought with anyone daring to oppose him. Injustice will rule the day and his disregard for life will reach the point where defenseless women will be ripped open and innocent children slain unmercifully. The tribe of Qays will rise up against him, however, they will not succeed, and he will slaughter all of them.
The Sufyani's army will go to Kufa; a city in Iraq, and from there he will launch an attack against the people of Khurasan. At the Gate of Istakhr, Shuayb bin Salih and the Hashimite under the black banners, will join forces and engage the army of the Sufyani. The battle will be extremely fierce with a tremendous loss of life and the army of the Sufyani will suffer a temporary defeat. It is at this time that a yearning for the Mahdi's appearance is on the lips of everyone.
The army of the Sufyani will march from the direction of Iraq to seize the Mahdi, however, when they reach the desert near Dhi Hulayfah the ground will swallow them up. However, two will escape to convey the news but even when he learns of the occurrence he will not be deterred. There will be some people from the Quraysh who manage to escape from him to Istanbul, which will be at that time under the control of the Romans. When the Sufyani asks for their return they will be returned whereupon not only the escapees' throats will be slit but those like them.
Khalid bin Ma'dan said:
The Sufyani will emerge with three staffs in his hand. Anyone whom he strikes with them will die. (Nu'aym bin Hammad)
The Sufyani is a man whose trial involves his person, his power, his speed and his fighting. One of his wonders consists of his staffs, which kill anyone he strikes with them. The hadith about the Sufyani confirms that he is a tyrant who will spread corruption and crime in the Earth immediately before the appearance of the Mahdi.

"Better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one." (Ancient Chinese Proverb)
Link: http://chinesefood.about.com/library/weekly/aa011400a.htm
Is any other food or drink reported to have as many health benefits as green tea? The Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since ancient times, using it to treat everything from headaches to depression. In her book Green Tea: The Natural Secret for a Healthier Life, Nadine Taylor states that green tea has been used as a medicine in China for at least 4,000 years.
Today, scientific research in both Asia and the west is providing hard evidence for the health benefits long associated with drinking green tea. For example, in 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol.
To sum up, here are just a few medical conditions in which drinking green tea is reputed to be helpful:
- cancer
- rheumatoid arthritis
- high cholesterol levels
- cariovascular disease
- infection
-
impaired immune function
What makes green tea so special?
The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.
Links are being made between the effects of drinking green tea and the "French Paradox." For years, researchers were puzzled by the fact that, despite consuming a diet rich in fat, the French have a lower incidence of heart disease than Americans. The answer was found to lie in red wine, which contains resveratrol, a polyphenol that limits the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet. In a 1997 study, researchers from the University of Kansas determined that EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is quite low, even though approximately seventy-five percent are smokers.
Why don't other Chinese teas have similar health-giving properties? Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. What sets green tea apart is the way it is processed. Green tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized. By contrast, black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves, which results in the EGCG being converted into other compounds that are not nearly as effective in preventing and fighting various diseases.
Other Benefits
New evidence is emerging that green tea can even help dieters. In November, 1999, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results of a study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo.
Green tea can even help prevent tooth decay! Just as its bacteria-destroying abilities can help prevent food poisoning, it can also kill the bacteria that causes dental plaque. Meanwhile, skin preparations containing green tea - from deodorants to creams - are starting to appear on the market.
Harmful Effects?
To date, the only negative side effect reported from drinking green tea is insomnia due to the fact that it contains caffeine. However, green tea contains less caffeine than coffee: there are approximately thirty to sixty mg. of caffeine in six - eight ounces of tea, compared to over one-hundred mg. in eight ounces of coffee.
No offense to Hip Hop Fans or a Hip Hop person it self, anyways i'm a hip hop fan to but after all the research this mite be possibly rite. hhhmm..what do u think of this?. after all the research, this thing really freak me out. seriously.

Meaning of Dajjal:"Imposter", one who conceals the truth with falsehood, a "falsifier", one who deceives, deludes, beguiles, circumvents, is very deceitful or a "great deceiver". The word also means "To smear the whole body of camel with tar". Thus, according to this meaning the Dajjal would mean a great falsifier who would cover the whole Earth with conceit and delusion and infidelity or with his beguiled adherents as tar covers the body.

Mahdi is a normal man who is going to follow the true Islam. His name will be Muhammad and his father name will be 'Abdullah. He is a descendant from Ali and Fatima (daughter of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh)) so he will be descendant from al-Hasan or al-Husain. Mahdi will be very just and his capital will be Damascus. Allah told us that Jews will master the world two times (we live now 1998 during the first one) and Mahdi will appear between those two periods and will rule through the last one. Mahdi is NOT a prophet but he is the final Rightly Guided Khalifa. Mahdi will lead Muslims to a great victory against the Christian Romans (i.e. All the white Europeans including the Americans). This great war is called al-Malhamah al-Kubrah or Armageddon. It will end up with a great victory to Muslims against Romans after six years. Muslims will take over their capital Rome (this can be any city). In the seventh year, the Anticrist will apear and a greater war will start between Jews and Muslims for 40 days (longer that usual days) and will end when ISA a.s "Jesus" (pbuh) will come and Muslims will kill all Jews. All people will convert into Islam. Peace will pervade the whole world.

What diet should I go on to avoid acne?
Drink water to help your body deal with toxins. Drink up to 10 glasses (2.5 liter) of water daily.
Food sources rich in essential fatty acids such as flaxseed, almonds, nuts and seeds can be helpful for the skin condition.
Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oils, are also recommended to promote a healthy skin.
Foods to avoid
There is the myth that chocolate causes pimples (unless you are allergic to it). This is not true.
Avoid eating too much "junk" foods high in saturated fats and sugar such as potato chips, carbonated beverages and candies. Excessive sugar can promote the growth of bacteria and yeast, something you don't want to happen if you have acne.
Often, when an adult gets the acne condition, it may not be due to fluctuation in hormones and could be a sign of a sensitivity to certain types of foods.
Foods that have a high risk of triggering such an allergic reaction include wheat, sugar, chocolate, margarine, corn, deep-fried foods and dairy products. You may have to eliminate foods from your diet to try to isolate the cause. An elimination diet is a diet where the person cuts out dairy products, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, smoking and processed foods.
What are other common causes of acne?
Here is a comprehensive list of factors that can cause or worsen this common skin problem:
Age - Adolescents are more likely to get this condition.
Gender - It is well known that boys are more likely to develop severe pimples compared to girls.
Heredity - Those with a family history are more likely to get this condition.
Environment - Working in an environment that is hot or polluted can worsen this skin condition. This is common for those who are exposed to cooking grease in the air while working in fast-food restaurants.
Clothing - Clothing and bags (such as a headbands, helmets, backpacks and tight collars) can rub and put pressure on the skin causing the pimples to get worst.
Diet - Foods does not directly cause this problem but may cause flare-ups and worsen the condition.
Drug Use - Prescription drugs such as birth control pills, antibiotics and steroids can aggravate this condition.
Hygiene - Although some people believe that pimples are caused by not cleaning the skin properly, this is far from the truth. It is a myth. However, using harsh soaps or scrubs can cause excessive irritation to the skin and make the condition worst.
As well, Gently clean the skin with a mild cleanser designed for the skin and touching or squeezing the "zit" can cause further inflammation and can easily worsens the appearance of the pimple.avoid the regular bar soap used to wash your hands.
Use of Cosmetics - Avoid using oil-based cosmetics products or those with perfume. They can worsen the condition. Even hair spray can aggravate the pimples on the foreheads.
Candida/Yeast Overgrowth - Yeast (Candida albicans) overgrowth in the body can contribute to the acne condition.
Toxins in the Body - Some herbalists believe that acne is related to toxins and bacteria building up in the liver or intestine.
Stress - Emotional stress, although it does not cause acne, can aggravate the condition significantly. Read our detailed article on how to manage stress using natural remedies.
Nutritional Deficiency - Low levels of zinc and essential fatty acids may also be involved in worsening the acne condition.
What is the main cause of acne?
- excessive production of sebum causing it to easily clog the pores,
- an increase in production of keratin, a protein that covers the skin, and
- an increase in the number of sebaceous glands, thus producing more sebum.
